The Wind Park in Gothenburg’s Frihamnen, a former cargo loading and unloading area along the harbor front, is a celebration of the wind. This evolving project invites visitors to explore the power of the wind, build their own kites, and experience land sailing. The park is framed by repurposed lamp fixtures discovered in the area, now adorned with colorful recycled buoys sourced from local shipping industries, creating a vibrant display that lights up at night. Each lamp is powered by a small, individual wind turbine, and the movable fixtures can be rearranged to suit different activities.
The project was initiated, conceptualized, and brought to life by architects Luka Murovec, Maja Wendel, and Rasmus RB Maabjerg from Rumgehør Studio, along with artist Brad Downey. The group invited with Lundgren+Lindqvist to create an ephemeral item that could serve as both a promotional piece and a gift for visitors. In response, we designed a versatile, two-sided poster that can be folded into a paper plane, a boat, or a kite. The poster was printed on coated paper in two Pantone colours; the fluorescent orange which is used for buoys and silver.
With a limited budget, we sought sponsorship opportunities and approached our collaborators at the printing house By Wind. Given the natural alignment between By Wind’s focus and the Wind Park’s theme, they recognized the value of the partnership and generously agreed to produce the posters at no cost.
The park was inaugurated as part of Gothenburg’s 400th-anniversary celebrations. During the inauguration, the International Freedom Kiters from Afghanistan hosted kite-building workshops, giving visitors the opportunity to construct and fly their own kites.
