By Wind is one of the Nordics’ leading quality printing companies, known for their quality oriented process and commitment to sustainable practices. Their operations are built around the use of renewable and recyclable resources, allowing them to minimise environmental impact while delivering high-quality printing services. By collaborating closely with clients and suppliers who share their values, By Wind contributes to sustainable growth across several industries. In 1994, By Wind invested in wind power, and in 2018, they became the first printer in Sweden to use origin-labeled electricity generated by their own wind turbines.

After a long-standing relationship with By Wind, previously known as Göteborgstryckeriet, Lundgren+Lindqvist designed and developed their website, building upon the visual identity crafted by F&B Happy. We implemented a cohesive and dynamic design system that not only strengthened By Wind’s identity but also introduced a distinct structure to the website. At the core of the design lies a grid-based system, where left- and right-aligned elements meet, mirroring the geometric nature of the logotype and emphasising the concept of interconnected squares. The main focus of the website is an inspiration archive, allowing visitors to navigate through a vast archive of reference projects–for high profile clients such as Acne Studios, Polestar, Byredo and Unit Editions–based on a detailed classification system. To address the growing need for more knowledge about the printing process on the client side, a dictionary of print terms, complete with detailed explanations in both text and images, has been added to the site.

With the first website we built for By Wind in 2010 we introduced the blog-like case section labeled Inspiration. While the site has been both redesigned and rebuilt several times since then, the library of inspiration posts has remained at the core, continuing to grow in size and becoming a comprehensive archive of printed matter of the highest quality. With the latest edition of the website, the database, a large set of WordPress-entries, was complemented further with the aforementioned dictionary. With a combination of deep understanding of the clients needs, we ourselves are clients often looking for inspiration on the site, and more elastic search through code the aim is to have clients more easily find work matching their criteria but also be able to randomly explore the vast archive for more inspiration. In the world of endless mockups from designers and studios, a lot of the knowledge about the actual printing process risk getting lost. By emphasizing the production qualities, and connecting work visually with images to techniques By Wind strive to guide their clients to making better choices in their print productions.
