Erik Gustafsson (b. 1987, Uppsala) is a Swedish photo based artist living and working in Gothenburg, Sweden. In his series, ’Pause Between Thought and Action’, comprised of 40 abstract luminograms, Gustafsson has experimented with light and light sensitive paper. Employing chance as a tool or method, the artist has made use of whatever was available in his studio as props, including his own body and the bodies of friends. Between February 2022 and September 2023, the full series is on public display at the Mariatorget subway station in Stockholm.
Lundgren+Lindqvist designed and edited the book presenting the Gustafsson’s series of works. In the design of the book, we use the typographic disposition to illustrate the leitmotif in Gustafsson’s process. The works are divided into four groups of ten, with an empty spread preceding each segment, allowing for a ’pause’ before ’action’.
The laminated, blind embossed cover echoes one of the signature shapes found in the series of works and the paper for the inlay was carefully selected to optimize the vibrancy of Gustafsson’s images.
