Oh Land

November 1st, 2010

Oh Land is Danish Nanna Øland Fabricius, a ballet dancer turned singer and producer who recently moved to New York City. She makes electronic music with the aim to “feel like 2050 meets something really classic, like meeting a stranger that feels as familiar as an old friend”.

Record label, Epic Records / Sony BMG, approached us asking for a full screen video solution for her music and videos. They also needed the site to be based on WordPress so that they could easily update the content.

Inspired by the look and feel of the drum machines and synthesizers used in Oh Land’s music we designed the site on a grid made up of squares. The content is placed at random, each time a new section of the site is opened, with the different modules always staying within the grid. The number of modules displayed is determined by the size of the visitor’s browser, to make sure each user has the best experience possible. This organic approach along with the minimalistic interface made sure that no part of the constantly changing video background would always be covered.

All content is loaded over a Flash video background and new content is fetched via AJAX. Much of the site functionality is custom written and the site includes a custom plug-in for the WordPress admin panel where the editor can edit the video background, including adding or removing clips and changing the timing of the loops. Another technique used is IP detection to show specific posts for visitor from selected countries.

Filmhouse

November 1st, 2010

Filmhouse is a film production studio striving to be on the cutting edge of the industry. Founded 8 years ago they have established themselves with a custom built studio facility outside Skövde and a Gothenburg office.

We were approached to redefine Filmhouse’s web presence leading to the creation of a new website. The main objectives were to emphasize the company’s strive to be innovative and to show off their great facilities, which are also subleased. This was accomplished by involving Filmhouse in the creative process and designing a website entirely built on a film background, displaying the studio, which immediately lets the visitor know what services the company provide. A number of short films with different scenarios are played at random. This also provides Filmhouse with an easy way of keeping the website fresh and updated by filming new material whenever something exciting happen in the studio. We used the green screen, the dinner table of the film industry, as the colour source for links, button etc.

By clicking the Facilities link in the menu the camera is zoomed out from the main view, lifted up, and you get a walk around the facilities with a glimpse of the daily activity of the studio.

The site also have a Portfolio section – that collects videos from Filmhouse’s Vimeo account – and a blog.

The website is built on a WordPress CMS platform for a straight forward User Interface and back web. Ajax is used to load new content on top of the background video in Flash and Javascript make the site interact with the Flash video, for example pausing and playing the right movie.

Poseidon

September 30th, 2010

Poseidon is one of the largest housing companies in Gothenburg. They own and manage approximately 23,500 apartments in the Gothenburg municipal area and we have approximately 40,000 tenants. This means that around one in ten people living in Gothenburg is a Poseidon tenant.

Poseidon was looking for a way to present the apartments of their new block in a visual and interactive way and the architects Contekton came to us for a solution. We designed a visual and entertaining Flash application in which you can navigate through the entire block and view every apartment on every floor. The complex consists of 13 buildings and over 300 apartments in total. The modern approach to architecture meant that basically all apartments had unique planning. Consequently, every single apartment had to be integrated into the Flash application separately.

The application is fully integrated with the database of the website and all data is updated simultaneously. Any change made to the database, such as the status of an object, is changed automatically in the application. There is also deep linking between the original list view of the apartments and the visual solution. This means that you can find the object your looking for in the list and then go directly to that object in the application to see exactly where it is located in the block.
